Happy Fall Ya'll!

Hope you all are enjoying this not so fall weather! According to the calendar fall has officially arrived. According to the temperatures it is still summer. I cannot wait until the cool weather kicks in! I am so ready to say goodbye to all this heat! Fall is my favorite time of year! Just love everything about it and especially all the smells that come along with fall. My VERY favorite fall smell is Yankee Candles Spiced Pumpkin! I have the tarts and the spray and just love them! That wonderful aroma has been filling my home for the past few weeks. I cannot wait for the leaves to completely change either, just makes that commute to work a little more relaxing and enjoyable!

Well, here is my latest creation! Butterflies seem to be very popular this year in the baby world! This cake is not quite complete. I have a few more things to put on it but it was too precious not to share. And I totally forgot to take a picture of the outfit that is inside, which is absolutely adorable. I had to use the picture from the website that I ordered it from. Sorry, it is not the best quality. But you will get the idea.

Hello!

Here is a butterfly themed cake that I have been working on this week! I just love all the butterflies and the teddy bear is just so adorable! I just had to post a picture of the outfit that is inside of this cake, it is so cute! It also has the little ruffles on the back! This cake is sure to make your heart flutter!

I hope that everyone has had a great week! It continues to be a hot dry summer! The temps are supposed to be over 100 degrees tomorrow! I am ready for fall!! The stores have already started to put out all their harvest decor and I cannot wait to put my stuff out! Fall is our favorite time of year!

Ahoy!

What a perfect day for sailing right? Well, maybe not today because it has been a little dreary. I was hoping for some much needed rain, it is so dry everywhere. If you are a bit down today due to the weather, this cake is sure to cheer you up! It is so precious! I was so excited when I got the order for a sailboat cake! I thought how fun for the summer!

Hi Everyone!!

I know it has been a while since I have posted anything. Things have been really busy for me. Since I posted last I have changed jobs and have not had much time to blog. Tomorrow, I will begin my second week there! I am really excited because I am working in the Human Resources Department for a manufacturing company and it is my dream job!! I hope that it will all work out and I will get my HR career back on track!

How is everyone liking this warm weather?? It has been HOT HOT HOT! That is for sure! But hey with summer comes all the wonderful cookouts that includes lemonade, watermelon, strawberries, ICE CREAM, the beach, the pool, etc! Oh the joys of summer!

And don't worry even though I am a little busier than I used to be, I will still be making cakes! Just send me an email if you would like to place an order. Most of you know that I have two sizes of cakes that are the most popular the 10" and the 12". I have had this picture for a while and not had a chance to post, but I wanted you to be able to see the size difference in the two cakes. Its much easier to visualize when you can see them side by side.

Hello!

Have you ever had a day where ideas are just flowing through your head? Well, that is me today! I am thinking of creating a sheet cake style diaper cake...hmm...I think that would be interesting and different.

Also, I am in the mood for ladybugs...don't know why, maybe because they are supposed to bring luck...lol. I think a ladybug cake would be so cute using red and pink. With a cute ladybug plush on top! Let me know if anyone is interested. :)

As you saw in my previous post, I have some receiving blankets on hand. I did some Spring cleaning in the diaper cake bakery and found them tucked away. Because I love the brown and blue dots, I am going to start making a 10" cake tonight. For some reason they have been calling me to make a cake with them ever since I found them! This is not something I normally do, I usually only create cakes at the time of order. But, this time I am making an exception...lol. I should have it completed by the end of the week! It will be listed for sale for $40.00. Just shoot me an email if you are interested in purchasing it!

Honesty is the Best Policy!

We all learned growing up that honesty is the best policy! It is unfortunate that there are dishonest people in the world. I am sure that you have come across dishonest people a few times in your lives. I had an experience today that I would like to share with you, because I am honest.

As you all know, I posted a Piglet cake earlier this week. I let the customer know that the cake was ready on Thursday and that we needed to finalize the pick up arrangements. Basically, she stopped communicating with me. I could not get in touch with her. My mind got curious and I started to wonder. I happened to find another cake online that was so similar to the one I had put together, name and everything. The lady said she had it for sale. That made me even more curious. So I emailed the lady and she told me that yes, she had gotten the order and that the lady never showed to pick it up and she rushed to put it together. She said that unfortunately, it sounded like I had gotten scammed too. Why, would someone waste their time doing this? What thrills do they get out of it?

I have received several orders off of Craigslist and I have not had any issues and as a matter of fact, met some really great people! This is unfortunate that I had this experience because I did not see it coming at all. I now will have to be even more cautious than ever and require anyone that I do not know personally to put down a deposit before I proceed with the order.This is definitely a learning experience for me. I guess since I am honest and as good as my word, I trust that everyone else will be too. I am just too nice and too trusting. I will be taking the necessary steps to ensure that Craigslist is aware of this situation.

Ok enough of my rant. I have had to revise this since I originally posted it. I listed the Piglet cake for sale and all of the information about it and no sooner than I hit "publish post" and checked my email, it had already been SOLD! How fantastic is that? Don't worry, Piglet will be going to a good home and the person that bought the cake is legit and honest :). Thank you again Heather!

Here is the moment you've all been waiting for! Here is PIGLET!! This customer asked that I put the baby's name on ribbon and place on the cake. So, I took pictures of the cake with the ribbon and without it! It was something that I've never done before, and I am never opposed to trying something new! It definitely added a nice personal touch to the cake!

Today was such a nice day, that I have had SPRING on my mind! Tonight I decided to create a wash cloth butterfly! I have seen these but have not had a chance to make one. Here is my newest creation!

The Diaper Cake Bakery will be very busy this weekend and next week. I will have three cakes to post and I as always I am very excited to create them all!

Today, we got hit with more snow. It is just unbelievable! We only got about 2 - 3 inches this time but the wind chill was really bad today. It was the coldest day we have seen in a while. I am definitely looking forward to Spring! Speaking of Spring, I am going to create a Diaper Basket that I talked about in a previous post for those of you who may have spring baby showers to attend! That creation will be coming soon!

I know you probably won't believe this but we got more SNOW today! We got around 4-5 inches. Here are some pics of this snow. There is another system coming in this week and it could bring MORE snow. It is so wild that it has snowed two weekends in a row! This kind of winter is very rare for us!

SNOW SNOWSNOW

Well, the snow storm is over but the snow is still here! We ended up getting about 8 inches. The main roads are clear, but the back roads are a bit tricky. I was finally able to get Copper out in the snow Saturday afternoon. Here are some pics of him below. He was not very happy with me. Although, yesterday when we were digging out he ran around a bit because Chris had gotten it down to where it was only about an inch or two in the driveway and he didn't mind walking around in that.

I have a diaper cake pic to post soon! I have to keep you in suspense, and post it later! I have to say it is one of my favorites! Its only because I do not want the person who is receiving the gift to see it online before she sees it in person.

Snow Day!

Carhartt is helping me measure the snow here :)

It has been such a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing day! We all need a few of these every once in a while! The snow is just beautiful! It is supposed to snow all day and into the night. So far we have had 4 inches. They say we could get up to 13 inches.
We've got a big pot of chili going and just enjoying the snow.

I took some pics and I thought I would share. As many of you may or may not know, our dog Carhartt loves the snow. Copper on the other hand hates the snow, so we all know where Copper was for this photo shoot...inside curled up in the chair.

I had a thought in the middle of the night....how about a customer photo gallery? I thought it would be neat for my customers to share pictures of their diaper gifts to see how they were used at a shower, in a nursery, etc.

If I get enough response and interest I will get that going right away. Email me your pictures if you would like to share.

I have been thinking lately and I thought it would be great to have all the pictures of my cakes in one place. So I thought about it, consulted cuz Jess and she gave me some ideas. So tonight, I took the plunge and created a photo gallery page. I will only update it with pictures of my work as I complete orders. There is a link on the right hand side of my blog and one within this post.

This way you don't have to read post after post just to see my work. You can see it all in one place. This is great for people who follow me and for new customers. I know people don't have a lot of time these days and I want to make my page as user friendly as possible.

If you have any other ideas or suggestions please pass them along! I am still new at this and know I have a lot to learn.

I am so glad that the weekend is almost here it has been a long week already.

Hello Again!

Hope everyone is doing as well as they were earlier today! It was such a beautiful day outside this warm weather spoiled us here today on the East Coast!

When I get ready to assemble diaper cake orders, one of the questions I ask my customer is, "what would you like the gift tag to say?" Some people already have in mind what they want to say and others do not. The possibilities are endless as to what you can put on your gift tag. This just makes your gift that much more unique and adds that personal touch. I posted two tags in a earlier post this week for you to see. Just to give you a few more ideas on what to say here are some more tags that I have created from previous orders. As always, I am happy to help you come up with the perfect gift tag message for your order.

Remember, that I custom make each tag to coordinate with the cake. They are printed on card stock and look really nice on the packaged gift!

My Newest Creations!

Good Morning!

Last night I worked in the diaper cake bakery for a couple of hours. I built two cakes, and I cannot wait for you to see them both! I am working on a Camouflage Cake and a cake with Trucks on it! They will both be so precious! A few folks got a sneak peak at the Camo Cake and they fell in love with it!!

I really want to share the sneak peak pic of the camo cake, but I have restrained myself from doing so until it is completed!!!

Early next week I will have the Trucks cake ready and posted! I am just waiting on the rest of the materials to come in!

Hope everyone is having a fabulous Sunday! It is raining here and its a good day to lounge. As I posted in a previous post, my cousin Jessica is so talented and makes the most precious dolls. She has been very helpful and supportive of my diaper cake business. She has created a doll pattern especially for me to start using on my diaper cakes. See the picture of the doll she created for me above, isn't she adorable??? I am very excited!!! Now, I just have to get over to her famous Nama's and learn how to make it. Jess assures me that it is easy and I CAN do it. Jess and her Nama will have to cheer me on, because I am not very good at sewing. I am lucky to sew on a button...lol. I am up for the challenge and I am going to give it a whirl and see how it goes! It will be another fun option I can offer to my customers for their cute, unique and practical diaper gifts!

I am hoping to get to make my first doll soon! Stay tuned and watch my blog for more updates!

Diaper Cake Ingredients

Recently, I have been getting questions regarding the typical things that are included in my diaper cakes. So I decided to post a general list of things that I have included in previous cake orders:

Pampers swaddlers diapers size 1 (quantity varies depends on size of cake)
receiving blankets
burp cloths
Johnson's take a long travel pack - baby shampoo, baby powder, baby wash, baby lotion and desitin.
pacifiers
wash cloths
bottle
rattle/teethers/play keys, etc.
onesies
booties
bib
nail clippers
baby brush/comb set
sleeper
baby hat
plush animal or appropriate cake topper

The amount and type of items will vary depending on the size and details of the cake. Again, this list is compiled from all my previous orders. I thought it would give you an idea of things that have been and can be included. If there is something special you would like to have included in your cake just let me know at the time of your order.

Each cake is placed in basket wrap upon completion(see pic below). A homemade gift tag is included with all the items listed on the back of the tag that are on the cake. This helps the mother-to-be know what the contents of the cake are if she does not want to take it apart right away. I design the gift tag so that it coordinates with the cake theme. Pictured below are close up pics of some gift tags that I have created for previous orders.

Remember, diaper cakes are not only make cute, unique and practical gifts but they make great centerpieces for showers and are an added touch to the nursery decor.

Diaper Gift Basket Idea

I just had an idea pop in my head. What do you think of diaper gift baskets? They would be similar to my diaper cakes, made completely out of diapers. I thought it would be another fun gift to give the mother-to-be!

Let me know your thoughts on the idea!

After I posted the above, I found that someone else beat me to it. However, this was the only one I found. I was just curious to see if there were any others out there. The basket would look similar to this one below and I can offer them in different sizes as well.

When I get some free time, I will make one up and let you see my new creation! I am very excited!!!

The Cupcake Cake!

Hi Everyone!

I am excited to introduce the Cupcake Diaper Cake! It is a miniature version of the single layer diaper cake. This sample one has 5 diapers, two wash cloths, one burp cloth, two pacifiers and one rubber duck to play with in the tub!

It is adorable! These are perfect to put around the larger diaper cake to accent it at a shower, to take to the hospital to visit the new parents or for an older sibling to give to the new baby to welcome them to the family!

Hope everyone has a great week! Its going to be hard having to work all five days this week since these long weekends have spoiled me so much during the holiday season!

I Believe in Santa Claus

Here is proof, I still believe in Santa Claus.
He was at Christmas Town at Busch Gardens, I just had to go visit him. He was a Victorian style Santa. We waited in line for 20 minutes in the blustery cold wind to see him. And oh how pretty he was, it was so worth the wait! I even told him so!! :) He thought that was funny.

I am shown in the picture with my mother-in-law, Tamme, sister-in-law Grace, and Grace's mother-in-law, Linda.

Oh, can't forget Mrs. Claus. She was there too and so sweet. Grace and I had our pic taken with her too :)

We had such a great time! It was a magical evening that I will never forget.

Its been a while since I have written, I have been busy getting ready for the holidays. I just love this time of the year! I enjoy the Christmas lights and all the smells of Christmas. I am hoping for a white Christmas, but we will have to wait and see. I do not know about the rest of you, but 2009 has been a very hard year for us and our families. If you are able please donate food to the food pantry or sponsor an child on the Angel Tree or do something kind to help someone in need. So many people are without food, clothes or even a way to provide Christmas for their children. Sometimes the smallest gestures make a world of difference to someone. I have always lived by the saying that no matter what your situation, someone else probably has it worse than you. If you have a big heart like I do, find a way to help someone or a family in need this Holiday Season! Cherish the moments you have with your loved ones and most of all remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.

A New Creation

Hello!

It's been a while since I have posted a cake. This is a 2 tier pink and green cake. This was a custom order. At this time I cannot disclose who this "customer" is because she wants it to be a surprise at the baby shower!

It turned out really cute! The bunny on the top matches the bunny in the receiving blanket.

Today, is Thanksgiving eve and we all certainly have a lot to be thankful for these days. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! Take time to enjoy the day tomorrow and the ones you love.

Welcome to Diaper Gifts by Sue! I custom make diaper cakes and wreaths as a hobby. They make such cute, unique and practical gifts for the mother-to-be. The cakes are great center pieces for the baby shower! The wreaths also are a cute idea to hang on the door to welcome guests to the shower or a cute decoration for the nursery.

I use pampers swaddlers diapers either newborn or size 1. Each cake and wreath that I make have their own personality. I will not make any two cakes or wreaths alike.

Cake Information:
The cakes can be made in either 1, 2, or 3 layers. Depending on how much you want to spend, will depend on how much it will cost.

Wreath Information:
I can make 10, 12, or 15 inches. Again, depending on what you would like on it will depend on how much it will cost.

All my diaper cakes are packaged in basket wrap with nice ribbon and a customized gift tag. On the back of the gift tag there will be a list of the contents of the cake so that the person receiving it knows what's inside so they don't have to take it apart immediately if they do not want to.

I can make the cakes and wreaths for a boy, girl, themed or neutral. Email me your questions and I will customize your order to be the talk of the baby shower!
